About

Tess Strickland, ND

I am a Licensed Naturopathic Physician, which means I'm trained to be a primary care physician. Counseling has always been part of primary care in Naturopathic Medicine. I spent over ten years as director of a naturopathic clinic with interns and residents. I loved teaching new doctors. Then when my babies came along, I downsized to a small private practice to have a more flexible schedule for children. The small private practice was more intimate and less hectic and I noticed we had more time for counseling. It was during these years, I was able to witness the healing power of nature at its finest. Patients who spent more time and focus on their emotional well being seemed to respond better to all the physical therapies. This is, of course, anecdotal as I did not perform clinical double-blind studies, yet it was compelling enough for me to feel drawn to focus more in this area. I truly love this work.

Individual

Naturopathic Counseling utilizes a wide array of therapies to explore and resolve all manners of struggle or stress. With every therapy used, our main goal is to calm the nervous system so that you have access to your own clarity. Once grounded with clarityof mind, you can take effective action and engage in healthy relationship with yourself and others.

02.

Group

Groups can be so beneficial as individuals develop the ability to listen to each other in therapeutic ways. Because group fees are lower, many believe the outcome is less valuable than individual counseling. However, when a group has the right structure and is given enough time to become cohesive, I often see very deep and satisfying results. Groups have the added benefit of developing the skills of healthy communication and improving one's ability to be a good partner, good parent, good co-worker, and more.

03.

Parenting

Parenting can be HARD. It is also one of the greatest opportunities for growth when we find ways to meet the challenges with insights and new conversations. First, we ground ourselves in child development so that we know when children's behavior, though challenging, is completely normal and healthy. From there we discern each child and parent's concern and how to address these concerns effectively. Parents need support and my goal is to give you the tools to feel fully supported. (For two parents or parent and child see couples therapy for guidelines and fees. For two parents and child/children see guidelines for Family Therapy.)

04.

Couples

Naturopathic Counseling has a long tradition in systems counseling before systems counseling was ever named. Our medicine philosophy looks at how the parts function as part of a whole, and this is no different when it comes to counseling partners. With couples therapy, we also emphasize recognizing and resolving triggers. This can help communication with couples immensely as they come to see that each person, while not perfect, wants the best for each other. Come experience the new conversations that lead to a new way of living and loving.

05.

Forming New Habits

Forming New Habits not only utilizes counseling tools, but also includes physiological treatments such as auricular therapy, ear seeds, EFT, and even natural medicine recommendations.

06.

All Physical Health Concerns

Counseling for health concerns will focus on the emotional and neurological impact of your physical health struggle. It may also include recommendations for effective naturopathic treatments. Cancer patients or those with chronic diseases effecting their quality of life often utilize this counseling and find it beneficial for both their physical symptoms as well as reduction in stress and worry. Come see for yourself how naturopathic counseling can help physical symptoms.

Weight Loss

Counseling

In our weight loss clinic, we first seek to find the cause of weight gain. We address this cause before implementing a weight loss plan. Once the plan is implemented, we must address the issues of habits, emotional eating, and appetite. Toxic pharmaceuticals with side effects of dehydration and jitteriness are not effective long-term solutions. Along with counseling tools, we may also include natural appetite suppressant therapies like auricular therapy and ear seeds, EFT, or other effective naturopathic treatments.
